Hi, I’m Marisa - and I have ADHD

My Story

Like so many women my age, I was bored during the Covid-19 pandemic and downloaded Tik Tok. It didn’t take long before I came across countless videos on ADHD (what can I say - that algorithm knows things about you that you don’t even know yet). I recognized so many similarities between myself and what I was seeing and started to get a bit suspicious of my own brain; but rather than rely on social media and a less than reputable self-diagnosis, I decided to get a formal ADHD assessment and low and behold my brain turned out to be that spicy type. That diagnosis changed everything. Suddenly, my struggles with friendships, relationships, jobs, and even day-to-day tasks—things that seemed so easy for others—began to make sense. I was 30.

True to form I became hyper-focused on understanding ADHD and how it impacted my life. I researched strategies to help myself thrive with and without medication, but there was one glaring gap: no one was talking about how ADHD affects sex. How could ADHD influence every part of my life—how I worked, learned, played, and connected—yet not affect my sex life? It didn’t add up.

I began asking other women with ADHD: Did they struggle during sex, too? Did they find it hard to stay present and in the moment? Did they sometimes forget to have sex or struggle to initiate? Were they swinging between hyper-arousal and complete disinterest? Did they get emotional when receiving feedback from their partner about pleasure? The answer was a resounding “yes.” It was clear—ADHD affects sex just like it affects everything else, but no one was talking about it. Research on women’s bodies (gender bias much?) is only now being explored, the way we understand ADHD in women is brand new, so unsurprisingly, research on how ADHD affects women’s sexuality is practically non-existent.

At the time, I was already a Women’s Confidence Coach helping women rediscover their self-worth and confidence while also studying to become a Sex Coach & Educator. I founded the Erotes Sex Museum, a project that combines education, art, and history to spark conversations about how sexuality has shaped humanity through time and across cultures. As I continued down my career, I realized that my focus needed to shift. I had considered specializing in areas like pleasure, polyamory, or parenting, but the lack of resources on ADHD and sex became my mission. That’s what brought me to where I am today.

Today, I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and I travel across Canada speaking at events and helping women with ADHD improve their sexual well-being by integrating sex into their ADHD routine, building body awareness, exploring sensory experiences, enhancing communication, managing distractibility, and fostering sexual confidence.

If you’re ready to explore your sexuality with someone who understands both professionally and personally, I’m here to guide you. Let’s get in touch!
